The electrification of 101 Collins St, one of Melbourne’s most iconic commercial towers, delivered a power upgrade to the building, construction of new main switch room and heating hot water plant upgrade. Design involvement began two years prior to completion, with extensive negotiations required with the power authority to increase power supply to the building by an impressive 25%.

The electrification of 101 Collins St, one of Melbourne’s most iconic commercial towers, delivered a power upgrade to the building, construction of new main switch room and heating hot water plant upgrade. Design involvement began two years prior to completion, with extensive negotiations required with the power authority to increase power supply to the building by an impressive 25%.

A significant complexity this project was effectively working in a live environment to upgrade the building’s aging 33-year-old infrastructure. The age of the infrastructure required a performance solution to be prepared with respect to the building’s non-compliant earthing arrangement to satisfy the power authority’s stringent requirements.
